To be eligible for the studentship, applicants should have or expect to receive a minimum of 2:1 Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and MSc Forensic Psychology with an overall merit grade.

The studentship is tenable for up to 3 years [subject to satisfactory progress] and is based at the Ashworth Research Centre, Ashworth Hospital Merseyside. Due to clearance restrictions, the studentship is open to UK residents only. The studentship will cover the cost of tuition fees plus a maintenance grant of £13863per year (2014/15 rates). The successful applicant will commence on 1 January 2015.

Project Description: This PhD project will explore critical incidents (e.g. aggression) within High Secure Services with a view to predicting such incidents and developing a greater understanding of critical factors that link to such events. This is aimed to develop a psychological model of understanding to help manage, understand, and ultimately aiming to reduce such events.
