UNAOC Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Fellowship Programme, 2020

Applications are invited for the UNAOC Fellowship Program for the candidates from Europe and North America (EUNA) and from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

The main objective of the Fellowship Program is to challenge cultural stereotypes and develop cross-cultural partnerships between peoples from different faiths and cultures. In order to be eligible applicants must be fluent in English.

The UNAOC Fellowships aims at fostering intercultural exchange and interfaith understanding by engaging with emerging leaders and young professionals from Europe, North-America (EUNA), the Middle East and North-Africa (MENA).

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) was established in 2005 as a special political initiative of then Secretary-General Kofi Annan, co-sponsored by the Governments of Spain and Turkey.

Scholarship Description:

  • Course Level: This is a two-week fellowships programme.
  • Study Subject: The theme of the Fellowship 2020 is “Building peace in the age of new media”.

  • Nationality: Candidates from the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and North America are eligible to apply.
  • Scholarship can be taken in During two weeks, the EUNA cohort and the MENA cohort will visit each other’s region and interact with a wide range of local actors and partners.

Eligibility for the Scholarship:

  • Eligible Countries: Candidates from Europe and North America (EUNA) and from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) are eligible to apply for these fellowships.
  • Entrance Requirements: To be eligible as EUNA candidates, applicants must be:
    • Nationals from the United States, Canada, or a country member of the Council of Europe (plus Belarus)
    • Born between January 1st, 1985 and December 31st, 1995
    • Fluent in English
    • Working directly in the fields of gender and peacemaking or conflict prevention.
    • In possession of a passport valid at least 3 months beyond July 2020 (October 1st,2020 and beyond)
    • Must not have participated in any of the UNAOC programmes before.
    • Available to travel for a period of 15 days in June or July 2020 as scheduled by UNAOC. Final dates will be confirmed 4 weeks before departure.

    To be eligible as MENA candidates, applicants must be:

    • Nationals from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, State of Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, or Yemen.
    • Born between January 1st1985 and December 31st1995
    • Fluent in English
    • Working directly in the fields of gender and peacemaking or conflict prevention.
    • In possession of a passport valid at least 6 months beyond September 2020 (March 1st2021 and beyond)
    • Must not have participated in any of the UNAOC programmes before.
    • Available to travel for a period of 15 days in October or September 2020 as scheduled by UNAOC. Final dates will be confirmed 4 weeks before departure.

    The jury will only evaluate applications meeting all of the above-mentioned criteria.

  • English Language Requirements: Applicants must be fluent in English.
