University of New Castle is inviting applications for PhD scholarships. Three PhD scholarships are available focusing on a behavioural epidemiology approach for understanding physical activity and sleep behaviour for commencement in February 2015. Applicants must hold a first class honours degree, a masters degree or and/or research experience in a relevant field such as public health, psychology, health promotion. The closing date for application is 15 November, 2014.

Number of award(s): There are three scholarships available for students.

Duration of award(s): Scholarship is awarded for 3 year.

What does it cover?  
Scholarship 1. (Full Time)
-Is open to students who are Australian citizens/permanent residents. Students will receive a stipend of $25,392* per annum for up to 3 years and a funded place in the doctoral degree that covers the costs of tuition.
Scholarship 2. (Full Time)
-Is open to students who are Australian citizens/permanent residents. Students will receive a stipend of $25,392* per annum for up to 3 years and a funded place in the doctoral degree that covers the costs of tuition.
Scholarship3. (Full Time)
-Is open to international students who are not Australian or New Zealand citizens. Students will receive a stipend of $25,392* per annum + $5000 top-up for up to 3 years and a funded place in the doctoral degree that covers the costs of tuition.
This amount is indexed annually may be exempt from taxation dependent on the candidate’s personal taxation situation.
Additionally the successful international applicant will also receive:
-Relocation allowance – $1520
-Establishment allowance – $500
-Thesis allowance – $500
-Overseas Student Health Cover – In 2013, 3.5 years equates to;
-$2002 for single cover (scholar only)
-$4977 for dual cover (scholar and spouse)
-$6470 for family cover (scholar, spouse and any dependents)

Selection criteria: Applicants must hold a First Class Honours degree, a Masters degree or and/or research experience (including publications) in a relevant field such as public health, psychology, health promotion. Experience in quantitative research and/or a good knowledge of behaviour change theory would be an advantage.

How to Apply: Applications should consist of a cover letter, curriculum vitae, certified copies of all academic transcripts, evidence of additional academic attainments (e.g., publications) and if required evidence of meeting the English proficiency requirement. The cover letter must detail their research experience to date, and the project area that they would prefer to work in.
