South African Square Kilometre Array is awarding undergraduate and honors bursary programme. South African applicants are eligible for this SKA bursary.

The South African Square Kilometre Array vision is to participate, through its role in the field of higher education and scientific research, in the creation of a unified, developed and advanced South African Nation.

The Square Kilometre Array Radio Telescope – or SKA – will be the world’s biggest telescope – and one of the biggest scientific projects – ever.

Students must have achieved a minimum C in Mathematics AND Physical Science in Grade 12, or a minimum 60% for major subjects at undergraduate level.

Course Level: Bursary is awarded for pursuing undergraduate and Honors degree at South African universities.

Study Subject: Students who wish to study, or are studying, one of the following degrees:

  • Bachelor of Electronic Engineering
  • Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering
  • Bachelor of Computer Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science with majors in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics and Physics
  • Bachelor of Science with majors in Astronomy and Physics
  • Bachelor of Computer Science, with co-major in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics
  • Bachelor of Science – Honours – Physics and Electronics / Astrophysics / Astronomy / Computer Science.

Scholarship Award: The duration of an SKA SA bursary is one year for honours or fourth-year students, two years for third-year students, three years for second-year students and four years for first-year students.
The current level for an SKA SA undergraduate / honours bursary is R113, 000 per annum. (Note: the bursary level may be adjusted to take into account changes in university fees and inflation.)

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for scholarship

  • South African citizens (only).

Students who wish to study, or are studying, one of the following degrees:

  • Bachelor of Electronic Engineering
  • Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering
  • Bachelor of Computer Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science with majors in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics and Physics
  • Bachelor of Science with majors in Astronomy and Physics
  • Bachelor of Computer Science, with co-major in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics
  • Bachelor of Science – Honours – Physics and Electronics / Astrophysics / Astronomy / Computer Science
  • Students who have achieved a minimum of 60% in Mathematics and Physical Science in Grade 12, or a minimum average of 60% at an undergraduate level.

Nationality: South African applicants are eligible for this SKA bursary.
