Description:Diabetes and its rising prevalence have enormous implications for society and the provision of healthcare. Improved glycaemic control has been shown to significantly reduce the incidence of microvascular complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Not all patients with diabetes are properly monitored; therefore the use of telehealth (exchange of data between patient and health care professional) has become an increasingly important aspect in health care. However, it is important to assess both how telehealth functions and its clinical impact. The study will use a device called the Think Positive (T+) Diabetes Management System (e-san) and the acceptability will be assessed through descriptive analyses of the self-reported data collected from the questionnaires and interviews completed by participants and their health care professionals. Both quantitative and qualitative methods will be implemented in order to capture; perceived severity of symptoms, participant-reported quality of life, psychological well being, increases in self-care behaviours, self-efficacy and empowerment as well as attitudes to and levels of use of telehealth.
