Graduate Fellowships in Ecology and Evolution, University of Alaska

The University of Alaska (UA) will be offering up to eight 1$B!>(B2 yeargraduate fellowships for high$B!>(Bquality incoming students conductingresearch in the general areas of biogeography, landscape & spatialgenetics, plant$B!>(Bmicrobial interactions, ecology & genetics of invasivespecies, and the influence of species interactions on range expansions.Fellowships include a stipend of approximately $21,000/year plus healthinsurance and a tuition waiver. This fellowship program is part of abroader Alaska EPSCoR initiative to fund integrative science entitled"Resilience and Vulnerability in a Rapidly Changing North: TheIntegration of Physical, Biological and Social Processes." This programaims to fund integrative science concerning socio$B!>(Becologicalsustainability in the rapidly transforming northern regions.

The state of Alaska offers unparalleled beauty and untouched landscapes,as well as unique research opportunities. Research at UA includes topicssuch as adaptations to our extreme climate, plant$B!>(Bmycorrhizal biology,invasive species biology, climate change, how interactions among speciesinfluence community composition, the unique evolutionary history oforganisms influenced by glacial cycles and migrations from both NorthAmerica and Asia, and the interactions between ecosystems and the peopleliving in them.UA offers both Masters and PhD programs. Biology programs at all threeUA campuses (Fairbanks, Anchorage and Juneau) offer the potential tointeract closely with dedicated faculty and motivated peers. I am a Bsc holder from Alemaya university in plant production and protection. now I am employed in Ethiopia agricaltural research institute for two years. starting from my highschool age i need to be a biological scientiest but our poor country can’t satisfied the needs of the people so the country development also blocked due to low potential on capacity buildings.
