University of Rostock Postdoctoral Position in Neuroscience

July 3, 2008

At the Institute of Physiology of the University of Rostock we offer a  full time Postdoctoral Position in Neuroscience (5 years, with possible extension).

The institute is focussing on research into epilepsy and dystonia, as well as basic mechanisms of synaptic plasticity using chronic animal models (in vivo/in vitro) and transgenic approaches. The lab is fully equipped with state-of the art electrophysiology rigs (imaging and patch-clamp in brain slices, patch-clamp in isolated neurons, standard extra- and intracellular techniques in vitro, ion-sensitive measurements) and also provides a complete array of behavioural tests, in-vivo telemetry, and molecular biology, including real-time PCR and access to proteomics facilities. Funding is provided both by university and by extramural grants; the position itself is intramurally funded.

The successful candidate is expected to be an MD or to carry a degree in biology, chemistry or physics, to have completed her or his PhD (or equivalent), to have adequate experience in electrophysiology and/or molecular biology, and keen interest in research, including the willingness to apply for grants. The position will require teaching in physiology (seminars, 4 hrs per week). We offer an energetic, eager and harmonious group in one of the most attractive German university cities on the Baltic Sea.
