US Fulbright Awards 2011/12-CIES,Africa
Job Description: The Council for International Exchange of Scholars, The Fulbright Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs offers The US Fulbright Awards for the year 2011/12 in Middle East and North Africa
Up to six awards for research in any academic or professional area in two or more countries of the Middle East or North Africa. Support is provided for research projects of historical or contemporary focus, comparative or regional in scope, or where data must be collected in several countries. Fieldwork must be conducted in two or more countries of the region. Projects that involve collaboration with host country colleagues and institutions and that will contribute to cooperation among countries of the region are particularly encouraged. Projects may be undertaken in the following areas of the Middle East and North Africa: Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and West Bank.
Eligibility:
* Professionals who have a demonstrated record of research will be considered.
* Ameriacn Citizens.
Award Benefits:
1. Monthly maintenance, generally between $1,700 and $3,000, varies by country and number of accompanying dependents.
2. A travel allowance is provided to cover round-trip international travel fo rthe grantee to the place of assignment. Travel for up to two accompanying dependents (whose who spend at least 80 percent of the grant period abroad with the grantee) is provided for grants of four months or more. Depending on location, other relocation costs (one-time support for settling in, excess baggage provision) are included. In cases where international travel is provided in whole or in part by the host country government or host institution, direct Fulbright support may be adjusted accordingly. Scholars with grantes of less than one semester (four months) do not receive a relocation allowance or an allowance for dependent travel.
3. Up to $7,000 per child or $14,000 per family for accompanying dependent children in grades K-12 is reimbursed for a full academic year. Amount is adjusted for shorter grant periods. Reimbursement is based on actual cost of tuition and fees only.
4. Research allowance of $2,000.
How to apply:
1. Proposals must provide a detailed itinerary of travel to each country, including proposed host institutions, and, if possible, letters confirming affiliation. Applicants are encouraged to arrange affiliation and include letter of invitation. If an affiliation is not confirmed by the time of selection, the applicant will be responsible for obtaining an affiliation as a condition of receiving an award. For projects in North Africa, a one- or two-page Arabic or French summary of the research project is required with the application.
