Visiting Fellowship,Research,Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health, UK

Job Description: The Visiting Fellowships were established in 1983 to enable Paediatricians from abroad to visit the UK. The Fellowships allow an attachment to a paediatric department for three weeks, and attendance at the RCPCH Annual Conference.

2. It is therefore expected that for 2011 approximately eleven Visiting Fellowships will be awarded, but this will depend on the number and calibre of applicants.

3. Members of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health are encouraged to stimulate applications from eligible candidates and to assist by arranging a clinical attachment where this is appropriate. Applications will be considered by a committee of the Academic Board in October 2010 for the Visiting Fellowships to be awarded in 2011.

4. The Visiting Fellowships are awarded to enable paediatricians from abroad who need financial assistance, to spend up to four weeks in the United Kingdom, in order to attend the RCPCH Annual Conference (which is usually held in April) and to make visits to a centre in the UK. In 2011, the RCPCH Annual Conference will be held at the University of Warwick, 5-7 April.

5. The successful applicants will usually be paediatricians who have reached the equivalent of a consultant post, but will be in the early to mid years of their career.

6. Applicants should include, within the space provided on the application form, a concise summary of their interests and needs, and indicate the way in which the Fellowship will be helpful when they return home.

7. Priority will generally be given to applicants who are not otherwise likely to be able to visit the United Kingdom.

8. All travel expenses to the UK at the most economical rate, registration and accommodation at the RCPCH Annual Conference will be covered by the Visiting Fellowship. Reasonable expenses incurred in visiting other centres will also be covered. However, the Fellowship does not cover the expenses of any accompanying person(s).

9. Fellows will be required to submit a report on their study programme to the Academic Board within one month of the end of the Fellowship.

Application Deadline: Applications for Visiting Fellowships in 2011 must be received in the College office by 5pm, 30 September 2010.
