The Amy Shelton McNutt Scholarship is awarded annually to one incoming Freshman student. This student is chosen to exemplify high standards of scholarship, potential for campus leadership, and dedication to the service of others. The McNutt Scholar concept was initiated to honor those qualities that were highly valued by Amy Shelton McNutt. Past McNutt recipients have demonstrated their academic excellence while serving many organizations on campus in leadership capacities.
The recipient of this scholarship may not receive any additional William Woods University institutional scholarships. However, federal or state grants, loans or work-study may be awarded in conjunction with the scholarship if the recipient is eligible.
Basis for Award:
1. Minimum 31 ACT or 1360 SAT (Critical Reading and Math only) and minimum of a 3.7+ High School Grade Point Average.
2. Demonstrated qualities of leadership and service.
Award Value: 75% of tuition, room and board
Term of the Award: One academic year (see renewal requirements below).
Application Procedures:
1. Apply for admission and be accepted for enrollment to William Woods University.
2. Complete and submit the William Woods University Scholarship and Award Application along with the following information.
1. A list of your extracurricular activities (i.e. school groups and teams, community organizations, volunteer organizations, etc.)
2. A one to two page essay about your leadership and service roles incorporating the following aspects:
1. Explain one honor or leadership experience during the past four years that had great value or impact on your personal goals or philosophy.
2. Indicate the value of one or more of your work experiences.
3. Discuss what you expect to gain from your college experience at William Woods University in preparing for your career and lifetime goals.
4. Discuss the types of leadership and service roles you are interested in pursuing at William Woods University.
3. Come to campus and interview with the scholarship committee.
Conditions for Award Renewal:
1. Maintain a strong academic standing including an annual cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.
2. Demonstrate leadership qualities by active participation in campus and community service organizations.
3. Remain in good social standing.
4. Maintain a full-time academic course load.
Application Deadline: Application materials must be postmarked by March 1, 2009
