Women’s Imaging Fellowships 2012/2013, Canada
Job Description: This one-year fellowship includes breast, gynecologic, obstetric & abdominal imaging. There are two campuses: Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Women’s College Hospital.
The duration of each rotation is flexible, depending on the interest and background of the candidate. These include:
6 months breast/ 6 months gynae/OB & abdominal
4 months breast/ 8 months gynae/OB & abdominal
8 months breast/ 4 gynae/OB & abdominal.
The breast imaging rotation includes a high volume of screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound and breast MRI. Imaging guided procedures include stereotactic and ultrasound guided core biopsies, vacuum-assisted biopsies, fine needle aspirations and pre-operative localizations. MRI-guided procedures include vacuum-assisted biopsies and pre-operative needle localizations. Opportunity to be involved in sentinel lymph node scintigraphy is available. We maintain close ties with the medical biophysics department allowing many varied interesting research opportunities to be available. Fellows are expected to participate in the multidisciplinary conferences.
The gynae & abdominal rotation includes gynaecologic and abdominal imaging during ultrasound, CT and MRI rotations. In addition to a high diagnostic imaging volume of benign gynaecologic disorders, oncology and trauma, fellows will be trained in imaging guided procedures including: hysterosonography, ultrasound and CT guided biopsies and abscess drainage. Fellows are expected to participate in the many multidisciplinary conferences. Many interesting research opportunities are also available. The gynae/obstetric and perinatal rotation is flexible in duration, depending on the background of the candidate. It includes 6 -12 weeks of obstetric/gynae +/- perinatal imaging to be spent at the Women’s College Campus. During this rotation the fellows will be exposed to both routine screening obstetrical ultrasound (including first trimester nuchal translucency screen) as well as a high-risk referral population. Gynaecological imaging will be incorporated into the program including procedures such as hysterosonograms. Fellows are expected to participate in multidisciplinary rounds. Many interesting research opportunities are available. For those interested candidates the rotation may be expanded to include neonatal imaging.
Eligibility
Fellowship candidates must have completed an accredited Radiology training program and be:
* Certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Diagnostic Imaging or
* American Board of Radiology certified/eligible or
* Certified with equivalent qualifications and
* Proficient in both written and spoken English.
