2012 Postdoctoral Scholarship in Astroparticle Physics at KTH in Sweden

– Applicants should hold (or soon hold) a PhD in astrophysics, astroparticle physics, particle physics, or a related subject, obtained no later than five years prior to starting the position.
-Candidates may not have received their PhD from KTH.  Applicants are expected to have a solid technical background and so experience with instrumentation (detector systems and/or electronics) during PhD studies is a merit.
-Experience with data analysis and computer simulations (e.g. GEANT4) is also expected. The applicant should be highly motivated by basic research and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
-Considerable amounts of travel away from Stockholm will be required during balloon campaigns.
-An excellent command of the English language is required.

Scholarship Description:KTH in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes architecture, industrial management and urban planning. There are a total of just over 15,000 first and second level students and more than 1,600 doctoral students. KTH has almost 4,300 employees.  The School of Engineering Sciences carries out a wide range of research at the international front line, from fundamental disciplines such as physics and mathematics, to engineering mechanics with applications such as aeronautics and vehicle engineering. We also offer University degree programs in Engineering Physics, Vehicle Engineering, ‘Engineering and Education’, and ‘Open Entrance’, as well as a number of International Masters Programmes.

Duration of award:A postdoctoral scholarship position is limited to 2 years in duration.
