2015 PhD Studentship in Medicine (Cancer & Genetics) at Cardiff University, UK

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship for a project on “Development of a novel adenovirus serotype for cancer virotherapy applications” at Cardiff University School of Medicine. This project will seek to develop viral vectors (based on adenovirus) that specifically infect tumour cells to promote cell killing and break tumour tolerance. This studentship consists of full UK/EU tuition fees, as well as a Doctoral Stipend matching UK Research Council National Minimum. The application deadline is 29 April 2015.

-Academic criteria: Applicants for a studentship must have obtained, or be about to obtain, a 2.1 degree or higher in a relevant subject, such as any of the Biological or Medical Sciences.

Scholarship Description: A significant limitation to many cancer therapies is that the tumour readily develops resistance, resulting in aggressive tumour relapse. This project will seek to develop viral vectors (based on adenovirus) that specifically infect tumour cells to promote cell killing and break tumour tolerance. The project will be based within the Henry Wellcome building, at Cardiff University School of Medicine. The student will have ample opportunities to interact with other PhD students and postdoctoral within the School of Medicine through regular seminar series, Cancer Immunology focus groups and away days.

What does it cover? This studentship consists of full UK/EU tuition fees, as well as a Doctoral Stipend matching UK Research Council National Minimum (£14,057 p.a. for 2015/16, updated each year).
