AFS-USA empowers individuals to become active global citizens by offering transformative intercultural experiences that equip them with the knowledge and skills to foster a more just and peaceful world.

AFS began as a volunteer ambulance corps created in 1915. This timeline tells the story of the American Field Service Ambulance Drivers and how AFS was transformed from a wartime humanitarian aid organization into a groundbreaking international secondary school exchange, volunteer, and intercultural learning organization with a bold mission: to help build a more peaceful world by promoting understanding among cultures.

• Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship is offered in a program focusing on sustainability, STEM skills, intercultural understanding, and global competence.
• Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Age Requirement: Applicants must be born between September 1, 2007, and April 1, 2010.
2. Language: Must demonstrate sufficient proficiency in English to participate effectively in the program.
3. Interests: Passionate about sustainability, global challenges, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
4. Travel Readiness: Must have the ability to travel to one of the Academy destinations and meet the requirements for international travel.
5. Technology: Must have access to a device with internet connectivity to complete the virtual portion of the program.
6. Diversity: Encourages applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
