International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) of the Open University, UK is offering  Arturo Falaschi ICGEB Postdoctoral Fellowships. These fellowships are open to highly motivated scientists wishing to pursue postdoctoral research in a world-class scientific environment.

Established under UNIDO in 1983, ICGEB is a unique, autonomous, intergovernmental organization with biotech laboratories in Italy, India and South Africa.

Scholarship Description:

  • Application Deadline: March 31 and September 30, 2019
  • Course Level: These fellowships are open to the applicants hold a recent Ph.D. in Life Sciences or have at least 3 years of research experience.
  • Scholarship Award: The applicants will receive Monthly stipend: Trieste (Italy): Euro 2,000, New Delhi (India): US$ 1,590, Cape Town (South Africa): ZAR 18,750 and travel expenses from the participant’s home country to the ICGEB lab at the beginning of the fellowship and a return travel provision upon completion of the fellowship.

  • Eligible Countries: Applicants of an ICGEB Member State (Afghanistan, Algeria, Argentina, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Burundi, Cameroon, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Côte d’Ivoire, Croatia, Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, Eritrea, Hungary, India, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Iraq, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Libya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Montenegro,  Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Poland, FYR Macedonia, Qatar, Romania, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Republic of Tanzania, Uruguay, Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of) and Vietnam) are eligible to apply for the fellowships.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: Applicants should hold a recent Ph.D. in Life Sciences
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
    • Applicants must be nationals of an ICGEB Member State and may not apply for fellowships to be undertaken in their country of origin unless they have been working abroad for, at least, the last 3 years and at the time of application.
    • Degree requirements: applicants should hold a recent Ph.D. in Life Sciences or have at least 3 years of research experience.
    • Preference is given to candidates below the age of 35.

  • Supporting Documents: upload a single pdf document containing all requested attachments:
    • Curriculum Vitae (including a list of publications)
    • Proposed research project and timetable (max. 3 pages, plus up to 2 pages of bibliographical references and figures)
    • A written statement from the ICGEB Group Leader/Principal Investigator you have contacted and who is willing to support the project and provide laboratory space, explaining the motivation for the support of your candidature.
    • English language proficiency certificate (such as TOEFL, Cambridge Certificate or equivalent); not required when scholastic education has been undertaken in English
    • Ph.D. degree certificate, issued by the degree-granting University and bearing the official seal/s and signatures, should be submitted in the original language accompanied by an official English translation
    • Photocopy of the applicant’s passport
    • Name and contact details of three (3) referees who can provide a letter of reference on your behalf. At least one of these should be a member of the University or College you attended most recently. Do not upload the reference letters. Please request referees to send their letters by email to [email protected] by the application closing date. Program Benefits:

  • Duration: 2 years with the possibility of a 1-year extension.
  • Monthly stipend: Trieste (Italy): Euro 2,000, New Delhi (India): US$ 1,590, Cape Town (South Africa): ZAR 18,750.
  • Travel: the fellowship includes provision for travel expenses from the participant’s home country to the ICGEB lab at the beginning of the fellowship and a return travel provision upon completion of the fellowship.
  • Medical health insurance coverage is provided for the duration of the fellowship.
  • Research costs will be supported by the research group’s budget.
  • Visa/permit of stay application and renewal costs are reimbursed.
  • Support for participation in Meetings and Courses is generally provided by the Group Leader / PI.
