Center for Global and Regional Studies Junior Research Fellowships, USA

Carleton College invites juniors to apply for the CGRS Junior Research Fellowships. If you have a research project that explores global or regional issues and you are interested in expanding it, you could receive up to $5000 to support your work.

The fellowships aim to support students engaged in projects that explore local, regional, national, or international issues with global implications. Priority is given to projects stemming from an OCS program (both domestic and international). The fellowship provides funding to help students deepen their research, and applicants may also request funding for language study related to their research.

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for any subject offered by the Center for Global and Regional Studies (CGRS), which includes majors and minors such as Africana Studies, American Studies, Asian Studies, European Studies, Latin American Studies, Middle East Studies, and more.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Must be a junior (will have senior status by the time the project is undertaken)
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is typically required
  • Joint proposals by two or more students are allowed
  • Priority is given to declared majors or minors in one of the CGRS member departments or programs.

Applicants should submit the following materials, to Anna Hagen via email (all materials should be in a single email, except for recommendation letters):

  • CGRS Cover Sheet
  • Project Proposal (2 pages, single-spaced)
  • Budget (1 page detailing all proposed expenses)
  • Personal Statement (1 page)
  • Unofficial Transcript
  • Two Faculty Recommendations (submitted directly by the faculty)
