The University of Strathclyde is offering a Discretionary Fund for outstanding applicants. The educational fund is designed for the academic session 2025/2026.

To be eligible for the Discretionary Fund, you must be a full-time or part-time student at the University of Strathclyde, studying for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree. You need to be a UK resident and have applied for all available government funding. This fund is meant to help students who are facing severe financial difficulties and cannot be used for travel or tuition fees.

Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: UK (Home students from Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Wales)
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Any subject offered by the University of Strathclyde
  • Admissible Criteria: Must be a registered full or part-time Undergraduate or Postgraduate student at the University of Strathclyde
  • Enrolled in a course with a normal credit load of 30 credits or more
  • Have applied for and had their application assessed for all statutory funding, including maintenance loans
  • Is UK domiciled and meets residency criteria set out in the Education (Access Funds) (Scotland) Determination 2013 or is eligible to receive maintenance support under legislation applicable in other parts of the UK
  • EU and international students are not normally eligible
  • The fund cannot assist with travel costs related to exchange or study abroad periods, or with tuition fees.

Benefits

The Discretionary Fund provides non-repayable top-ups to standard student support, such as student loans. It helps with essential living costs.

Further Information
The fund assessment looks at your income and essential expenditure to determine if there is a shortfall that the fund can help cover. If the shortfall is too large, the fund may not be able to assist, as it cannot be the primary source of income for a student
