  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for a PhD in International Relations, within the project “The Migrating Globalised City: Rethinking Everyday Urban Life Dynamics.”
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Hold a Research Master’s or Master’s degree in International Relations, Anthropology, Migration Studies, Geography, Urban Studies, or a relevant discipline.
    • Demonstrate excellent academic writing skills in English.
    • Have strong proficiency in French or Dutch or another relevant language.
    • Possess strong analytical skills and the ability to conduct innovative interdisciplinary research.
    • Have experience in qualitative research, including ethnographic fieldwork, interviews, discourse analysis, and/or archival research.
    • Show a willingness to relocate to and reside in the Netherlands.

  1. A short statement (approximately 1,000 words) explaining the motivation for applying.
  2. An outline (maximum 1,000 words) of the candidate’s proposed research within the broader project framework.
  3. A curriculum vitae (CV).
  4. Copies of MA diploma and academic transcripts.
  5. A copy of the MA thesis. If the degree has not been completed by the deadline, a letter from the supervisor confirming expected completion is required.
  6. If available, a copy of an article, book chapter, or other academic text that best represents the candidate’s work.
  7. Contact details of two academic referees (no letters of recommendation required at this stage).
  8. For non-native English speakers, a language certificate (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL) if the Master’s degree was not completed in English.

Benefits

  • A gross monthly salary of €2,901 in the first year, increasing up to €3,707 in the final year (based on full-time employment).
  • A holiday allowance of 8% of gross annual income.
  • An end-of-the-year allowance of 8.3%.
  • A temporary full-time appointment (1.0 FTE) for four years, with an initial contract of 12 months. Performance will be assessed after six months.
  • A total of 0.4 FTE teaching responsibilities spread over the second, third, and fourth years.
