Wageningen University & Research, in collaboration with the University of Antwerp, is now accepting applications for a Fully Funded PhD Position in Microbial Electrochemistry for Purple Phototrophic Bacteria under the Purple Spark project.

Applicants must hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, or a related field. Candidates should have a strong interest in microbial electrochemistry, purple phototrophic bacteria, and sustainable biotechnology, along with experience in microbial cultivation and working with (photo)bioreactors.

Eligibility

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, or related disciplines offered by the university.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Hold an MSc degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, or a related field

  • Strong interest in microbial electrochemistry, purple phototrophic bacteria, and sustainable biotechnology

  • Proven experience in microbial cultivation and operating (photo)bioreactors

  • Experience with pigment identification and quantification is a strong advantage

  • Ability to work independently in the laboratory and master new experimental techniques

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, including willingness to collaborate with PhD, MSc, and BSc students

  • Awareness of laboratory safety practices and commitment to a safe working environment

  • English language proficiency at the C1 level (an internationally recognized certificate may be required).
