graduate student position-Germany

A graduate student position (BATIIa/2) for a diploma scientist (Dipl.-Biol./MSc) is available immediately for a period of two years (with a possibility for prolongation) at the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene, University of Saarland. Our research group focuses on the “Biology of Staphylococcal Infections” with particular emphasis on staphylococcal interaction with eukaryotic proteins and cells, as well as staphylococcal gene expression and adaptative regulation. A more detailed descriptions of the activities of the group is available at http://www.uniklinikum-saarland.de/de/einrichtungen/kliniken_institute/bakteriologie/Forschung
The project is supported by the DFG priority programme 1130 “Infection of the Endothelium”. It focuses on the Staphylococcus aureus extracellular adhesive protein Eap. Together with our collaboration partners (Prof. Preissner, Giessen, and Dr. Chavakis, Bethesda), we have demonstrated that Eap has a strong antiinflammatory activity and antiangiogenic potential (Chavakis, Nature Medicine, 2002; Athanasopoulos Blood 2006; Xie, J Exp Med 2006; Sobke, FASEB J 2006, Schneider BBRC 2007; review: Chavakis Thromb Haemost 2005).
Applicants should have a keen interest and experience in molecular or cellular (micro)biology and should demonstrate strong dedication to scientific problem solving. Applicants must be available for interview in Homburg prior to employment. The campus Homburg of the University of Saarland is a large Medical School with intense research activities and with extensive local, regional and transregional scientific cooperations. It is located in the attractive Saarland-Lothringen-Luxemburg region known for its unique blend of German and French influences. For applications and further information, please contact:
