International PhD Positions in Operations Research & Econometrics, Netherlands

The Department of Quantitative Economics at Maastricht University’s School of Business and Economics is offering two fully funded PhD positions in Operations Research and Econometrics.

To be eligible for these PhD positions, applicants must have (or be close to completing) a master’s degree in operations research, econometrics, data science, mathematics, computer science, or a related field. They should have strong academic records, good programming skills (preferably in Python, R, Julia, or C++), and be fluent in English. Candidates should also have a clear interest in the research areas outlined for each position.

Eligibility

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in:

    • Operations Research

    • Econometrics

    • Data Science

    • Mathematics

    • Computer Science

    • or a closely related discipline offered by Maastricht University

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Hold (or be near completion of) a Master’s degree in Operations Research, Econometrics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or equivalent.

    • Demonstrate excellent academic performance.

    • Possess proficient programming skills (ideally in Python, R, Julia, or C++).

    • Have strong English language skills, both written and spoken.

    • Be interested in research topics involving heuristic algorithms and (Explainable) AI (for the Operations Research position) or machine learning for time series econometrics (for the Econometrics position).

    • Preferably be able to start by September 1, 2025.
