UNDP India is offering the UNDP India Internship Programme for Indian and International applicants in India. Applicants must be enrolled in a Master’s or PhD level programme in a graduate school/university and able to obtain necessary visas and arrange travel to New Delhi, India.

The objective of the Internship Programme is to provide UNDP India with the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.

Internships are designed to complement development-oriented studies with practical experience in various aspects of multilateral technical cooperation but also complement other international studies.

Eligibility

  • Interns are selected on a competitive basis. The following minimum qualifications are required:
  • An undergraduate degree should have been completed with work on a Master degree in progress.
  • Applicants should, therefore, be enrolled in a recognized university/institute course of study in fields related to the work of UNDP (including economics, environmental sciences, law, political science, sociology, social work, human resources, public administration and communication) at the time of application and during the entire period of internship.
  • Usually, those students who will return to their studies upon completion of their internship assignments are eligible. (In some cases, the internship is an academic requirement after the exams but before the final results to complete a dissertation or project)
  • Demonstrated interest in the field of development
  • Language skills:
  • Written and spoken proficiency in the English language is essential.
  • For Indian students knowledge of Hindi is desirable. Fluency in a regional Indian language is an
    asset.
  • An interest in in-country mobility; adaptability to varied physical and other environments; a desire to work with and gain the confidence and respect of people with a different language and cultural backgrounds.
  • Respect for the principles of the Charter of the United Nations

Is this paid internship? No,

  • Cost: United Nations’ interns are not paid. All internships are non-remunerative. All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation and living expenses must be borne by either the interns or their sponsoring institutions
  • Visa: You will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas
  • Travel: You will arrange and finance your travel to the duty station (New Delhi).Any official travel out of the duty station is not permissible
  • Medical insurance: You will be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship, and must show proof of a valid major global medical insurance coverage
  • Confidentiality: You must be discreet and keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship, and may not publish any documents based on such information

A number of awards offered: UNDP India offers limited internships to the applicants.

Internship Duration: The duration of the internship is three months to six months depending on the terms of reference.

    Applications should include the following:
  • A recent Curriculum Vitae
  • An expression of interest/ covering letter indicating the reason for requesting an internship and intended goals to be achieved if selected
  • Duration of Internship (start date) and (end-date)
  • A supporting letter from his/her institution, if applicable

Internship Application Deadline: The deadline for receipt of applications is generally around 2 months before the start of the internship period.
