 The Jakob Mann Foundation is pleased to announce the Jakob Mann Scholarship for exceptional international students and doctoral candidates committed to academic excellence and regional engagement in Oldenburg.

The scholarship is open to outstanding international students and doctoral candidates enrolled at the University of Oldenburg who demonstrate academic excellence, financial need, and relevance to the region. Applicants must hold a valid residence permit for study or doctoral purposes and be registered in Oldenburg or neighboring areas. Exchange students, part-time students, participants in language courses, BAföG recipients, and students with German citizenship are not eligible.

The Jakob Mann Foundation was established in 2003 by Irmgard Mann in memory of her husband, Jakob Mann. The foundation is dedicated to supporting socially disadvantaged yet highly gifted individuals by providing them with opportunities to develop and apply their talents fully.

Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: All countries (except Germany; applicants must not hold German citizenship)
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects:The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the University of Oldenburg.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Must be an international student or doctoral candidate enrolled at the University of Oldenburg
  • Must demonstrate outstanding academic or research achievements or other evidence of giftedness
  • Must show financial need
  • Must be registered in Oldenburg or neighboring regions during the funding period
  • Must demonstrate relevance to the region (e.g., intention to pursue a doctorate in Oldenburg, future career prospects)
  • Must hold a valid residence permit for study or doctoral purposes (usually Section 16 of the German Residence Act)
  • Desirable: Social, community, or university-political involvement

Not Eligible:

  • Language course participants
  • Exchange students
  • Part-time students
  • International students with German citizenship
  • BAföG recipients
  • Applicants planning stays abroad during the funding period (unless pre-approved)
