The JAPAN STUDY SUPPORT Scholarships, managed by JPSS in collaboration with the Asian Students Cultural Association and Benesse Corporation, are now open for international students enrolling in Japanese universities. This program provides financial assistance to support their educational journey and promote cultural exchange.
To be eligible for the JAPAN STUDY SUPPORT Scholarships, applicants must be international students (non-Japanese citizens) accepted into an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a Japanese university starting in spring (April/May) or autumn (September – November) 2024.

- Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by Japanese universities.
- Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet all the following criteria:
- Accepted for enrollment in a Japanese university undergraduate or graduate degree program starting spring (April/May) or autumn (September – November) of 2024.
- Enrollment must be confirmed.
- Not eligible for students in Japanese language programs or short-term programs.
- Registered on JAPAN STUDY SUPPORT (JPSS) website and have a “MY PAGE”.
- Received a message from the specified university via the “JPSS Scout function” prior to acceptance.
- Able to interview in either Japanese or English.
- Has a Japanese bank account in the applicant’s name (Internet banks not accepted).
- Not a Japanese citizen.
How to Apply
- Application Procedures:
- Apply through your JPSS My Page.
- Submit the following documents:
- Application form (basic information)
- Short essay (up to 350 English words or 800 Japanese characters on “Motivation to Study in Japan & Future Goals”)
- Self Introduction Video (no more than 30 seconds)
- Selection Method:
- First round: Document screening
- Second round: Interview
- Notification of successful applicants
Successful applicants will be notified directly and names will be publicized on the JPSS website.
Benefits
- 500,000 yen financial support for one successful applicant after enrollment.
- 100,000 yen financial support for two successful applicants after enrollment.
Important Notes
- Any false information in the application documents will lead to rejection and repayment of the scholarship.
- Scholarship recipients must complete their education program or they must repay the scholarship if they drop out or are expelled.
- Recipients must submit periodic reports and may be required to attend JPSS events or accept interviews.
- Scholarships are provided by Benesse Corporation.
