The Nichibunken (International Research Center for Japanese Studies) is offering Academic Encouragement Award for outstanding candidates. The program is designed for the academic session 2024/2025.
Applicants must be current MPhil/PhD students with research related to Japanese culture, from the UK, EU, or overseas. Eligible candidates are limited to doctoral students recommended by overseas institutions holding academic exchange agreements with Nichibunken or international member institutions (Full Member) of the Consortium for Global Japanese Studies.

Eligibility

- Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded to candidates in any MPhil/PhD programme with a research topic relating to Japanese culture
- Admissible Criteria:
- Current PhD/MPhil students only, not applicants starting their studies in 2024
- Must be able to arrive in Japan on or after April 1, 2025, and depart by March 31, 2026
- Duration of stay is up to 90 days
- Arrival and departure during the New Year period (December 29-January 3) are not allowed.
