Western Armenian Teacher Education Scholarships in Portugal, 2018

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is offering up to six scholarships for future teachers of Western Armenian. The value of each scholarship will be determined on a case by case basis, depending on length and location of study.

The objective of the programme is to prepare a global pool of teachers and professors of the Western Armenian language, contributing to the development of Western Armenian linguistic heritage and education.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is a Portuguese institution under private law and of general public utility, perpetual in nature, with its statutory purposes spanning the arts, beneficence, science, and education.

If English is not your first language then you will need to show that your English language skills are at a high enough level to succeed in your studies.

Scholarship Description:

  • Application Deadline: December 22, 2018
  • Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue a career in pre-university level teaching within Armenian schools (or teaching the Armenian language at other schools)
  • Study Subject: Scholarships are available for Western Armenian language and culture.
  • Scholarship Award: The value of each scholarship will be determined on a case by case basis, depending on length and location of study.
  • Nationalities: These scholarships are open worldwide.
  • Number of Scholarships: Up to six scholarships will be provided per year.
  • Scholarship can be taken in the UK

Eligibility for the Scholarship:

  • Eligible Countries: These scholarships are open worldwide.
  • Entrance Requirements:
    Individuals who master Western Armenian and wish to pursue a career in pre-university level teaching within Armenian schools (or teaching the Armenian language at other schools)
    Individuals who are already pursuing a teaching career, or have their teaching degree, but wish to master Western Armenian at a recognized university or language teaching centre.
  • English Language Requirements: If English is not your first language then you will need to show that your English language skills are at a high enough level to succeed in your studies.

Application Documents

  • A copy of the candidate’s passport (main page with personal data)
  • Attested copies of academic certificates obtained and grade-sheets (last academic year), with grades’ clarification letter, translated into English, if originals are not in English or French
  • 2 letters of recommendation from a professor and/or current supervisor in the applicant’s field/place of work
  • A motivation letter (max. 2 pages) explicitly outlining career plans for teaching Armenian language (or related subject)
  • A full curriculum vitae
