2016-2017 Parliamentary Internship Programme For Canadian Students

Applications are invited for Parliamentary Internship Programme from Canadian Students for the year 2016-2017.  Applicants must hold at least one university degree and will be under 35 years old on September 6, 2016. This is a paid internship programme interns receive a $23,000 stipend for this ten month programme. Internship application deadline is January 31, 2016.

Field of Internship: Interns will study Parliament and Canadian politics through weekly seminars, discussions with leading thinkers and policy makers, comparative study tours to legislatures in Canada and abroad and through their own original research. In workshops and online, they also share their experience and knowledge with younger Canadians.

Internship Description: The Parliamentary Internship Programme is an independent non-partisan initiative of the Canadian Political Science Association delivered in cooperation with the House of Commons and is supported by private and public sector sponsors. It gives ten young professionals the opportunity to work and study on Parliament Hill from September to June. Following orientation, interns interview and select the Members of Parliament for whom they work during two separate placements, one with a Government MP and one with an Opposition MP. They study Parliament and Canadian politics through weekly seminars, discussions with leading thinkers and policy makers, comparative study tours to legislatures in Canada and abroad and through their own original research. In workshops and online, they also share their experience and knowledge with younger Canadians.

Number of awards offered: Ten Young Professionals will be selected.

Internship Duration: The duration of programme is ten months.

Notification: Short-listed candidates will be invited for telephone interviews in March. Unsuccessful candidates will be invited to re-apply at that time. The final selection of the interns will be completed by the end of April.
