PhD Fellowships in One Crop Health Computer Vision for Monitoring of Pests, Weeds and Beneficials in Agricultural Fields, Denmark

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen is pleased to announce two PhD Fellowships in One Crop Health Computer Vision for Monitoring of Pests, Weeds and Beneficials in Agricultural Fields, funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The fellowships focus on two distinct research areas: Computer Vision for Monitoring of Pests, Weeds, and Beneficials and Mechanistic Co-simulation of Insects, Weeds, and Plant Infestation in Agricultural Fields.

To be eligible, applicants must hold a master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, bioinformatics, mathematics, or a related field. They should have a strong background in programming, image analysis, computer vision, and machine learning, with particular emphasis on deep learning techniques. Proficiency in English, strong academic writing skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams are essential.

Eligibility

    • Computer Vision for Monitoring of Pests, Weeds, and Beneficials in Agricultural Fields

    • Simulation and Mechanistic Co-simulation of Insects, Weeds, and Plant Infestation

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:

    • Hold a Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, bioinformatics, mathematics, or a related field

    • Have educational background or experience in programming for image analysis, computer vision, machine learning, simulation, and/or deep learning

    • Demonstrate good academic writing skills

    • Be proficient in English (spoken and written)

    • Be collaborative and willing to work across disciplines including environmental science, agriculture, and entomology

    • (For simulation PhD) Preferably have strong C++ programming skills and knowledge in optimization and numerical analysis

    • (For vision PhD) Experience with tools like PyTorch or TensorFlow is beneficial

    • Have interest in agriculture and biology.
