The Erasmus School of Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam is seeking motivated candidates for a four-year PhD Position in Empirical Legal Research on the Rule of Law and Judicial Politics. The research will address contemporary issues such as judicial independence and public trust in courts within democratic societies.

The PhD position at the university is open to candidates who hold (or are close to completing) a master’s degree in Law, Law & Economics, Political Science, or a related discipline. Applicants should have a strong academic background or research interest in legal studies, judicial politics, or the rule of law, and possess knowledge of empirical research methods (quantitative skills are an advantage).

  • Have knowledge of empirical research methods (quantitative methods are an advantage)

  • Possess excellent written and spoken English skills

  • Be willing to participate in mandatory international mobility within the EDLE programme
