Postdoctoral Fellows Position in History of English Language / Corpus Linguistics, Norway

The University of Stavanger is offering two Postdoctoral Fellows Position in History of English Language and Corpus Linguistics, starting January 1, 2026. The positions are part of the ERC-funded LiTra project and are designed to support early-career researchers in building their academic profiles.

To be eligible, applicants must have a completed PhD or have submitted their doctoral thesis in a field related to the History of English Language or Corpus Linguistics. They should have strong research skills and relevant experience based on the specific role they apply for—either in historical corpus linguistics and technology (Fellow 1) or in English historical texts and manuscripts (Fellow 2).

Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities are eligible.

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in History of English Language or Corpus Linguistics, as aligned with the LiTra project at the University of Stavanger.

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:

    • Hold (or have submitted for evaluation) a PhD in a field relevant to the project.

    • Demonstrate interest and experience in one or more of the following areas:

      • Historical corpus linguistics and programming/database skills (Fellow 1),

      • History of English and manuscript/document analysis (Fellow 2).

    • Show competence in linguistics and areas such as syntax, morphology, lexicology, or phonology.

    • Be fluent in spoken and written English.

    • Present a high-quality project proposal contributing to the LiTra project.

    Additional valued skills include knowledge of medieval languages, manuscript reading, historical/social geography, and sociolinguistics.
