The Department of African American Studies at Princeton University is pleased to announce the Visiting Research Scholar Program for the academic session 2026–2027. This opportunity allows emerging scholars to deepen their research on race while teaching and engaging with Princeton’s vibrant academic network.

Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: Applications are open to candidates of all nationalities.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The fellowship will be awarded in any discipline relevant to African American Studies and the study of race in national or global contexts.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (dissertation must be completed before appointment).

  • Be faculty members (preferably pre-tenure) with at least one year of teaching experience in their current position.

  • In rare cases, independent scholars may be considered.

  • Be able to teach one undergraduate elective course (subject to enrollment and approval).

  • Not be engaged in writing a dissertation during the appointment period.
