Tokyo Foundation SYLFF Fellowships in Austria

The Tokyo Foundation’s prestigious SYLFF Fellowship is now open for applications! This fellowship supports exceptional students at mdw by providing USD 16,666 to cover living expenses, allowing recipients to focus entirely on their artistic and academic development.

To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must be actively enrolled in a master’s or diploma programme (2nd phase of study) at the mdw University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna for the entire academic year.

Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in one of the following fields:

    • Chamber Music

    • Piano Performance (including Art Song Interpretation)

    • Vocal Studies (Master Lied-Oratorio-Concert, Master Vocal Performance, Master Stage Performance)

    • Wind and Percussion Instruments (Performance)

    • String Instruments, Harp, and Guitar (Performance)

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:

    • Be actively enrolled in a degree programme at mdw during the entire 2025/26 academic year (no academic leave permitted)

    • Be enrolled in a master’s degree or diploma programme in the 2nd phase of study

    • Demonstrate outstanding qualifications and excellence in their respective discipline

  • Letter of recommendation from main artistic subject instructor (explicitly for this application, addressing the applicant’s excellence in their discipline)

  • Endorsement of the recommendation letter by the department head and a colleague from the same discipline (with signatures)

  • One-page project concept related to a current societally relevant theme, including content, target audience, and budget (EUR 3,000 max.)
