Harvard students committed to environmental leadership or Native American policy and health are invited to apply for the prestigious Udall Scholarships. This award supports sophomores and juniors pursuing impactful public service careers.

Eligibility for the Udall Scholarship requires applicants to be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents who are sophomores or juniors committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American health care. Students applying in the tribal policy or health track must be Native American or Alaska Native and enrolled in a federally recognized Tribe, while those applying in the environmental track do not need tribal affiliation.

The Udall Foundation is a U.S. federal agency dedicated to supporting leadership development, public service, and policy engagement in the areas of environmental stewardship and Native American issues. Established in honor of Congressman Morris K. Udall and Secretary Stewart L. Udall, the foundation promotes education, collaboration, and solutions-focused work that strengthens environmental sustainability and advances tribal governance and healthcare.

  • For the tribal public policy or health care track: be a Native American or Alaska Native who is an enrolled member of a Federally recognized Tribe
  • Students applying through the environmental track do not need to be Native American
  • Be nominated by Harvard University.

How to Apply

Students must receive a nomination from Harvard University before applying. Applicants should attend the information session, meet with URAF staff through drop-in advising, and schedule a one-on-one appointment after completing the required preliminary steps. Applications are submitted online through the Udall Foundation portal after nomination.
