Umeå University is giving an opportunity for high-caliber international students to apply for the Global Connections Fund. The study program is open for the academic session 2025/2026.

This scholarship aims to provide postdoctoral researchers with an opportunity to develop research independence while advancing knowledge in cancer research. The successful candidate will work on a project titled “Genetic- and chemical screens in C. elegans to identify suppressors of oncogenes in the MAPK-pathway”, focusing on drug discovery and genetic screening. The research will be conducted at the Translational Research Center in collaboration with the Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden.

Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: Open to international applicants who have obtained their doctoral degrees from a non-Swedish university.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded within the field of cancer research, with a focus on the MAPK signaling pathway using Caenorhabditis elegans and human cell line models.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Must have completed a doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree no later than at the time of the decision about the scholarship recipient.
  • The degree should have been obtained within the last three years unless exceptional circumstances apply.
  • The doctoral degree should be in a relevant field.
  • Strong background in genetic manipulation techniques and cell culture.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken).
  • The applicant must fulfill the eligibility criteria for scholarships from the Kempe Foundations and the postdoctoral stipend requirements at Umeå University.
  • Meriting criteria include experience with C. elegans, cancer biology, proteomics, or chemical genetics.
