Scholarship Open for International Students: Norwegian and international students can apply for this research fellowship.

Scholarship Description: With the urgent need of new and environmentally friendly materials for harvesting, conversion and transmission of energy, the present project addresses novel semiconductors related to thin films and nanostructures of advanced opto-electronic materials. For oxide semiconductors in general, and for zinc oxide (ZnO) in particular, it is challenging to exploit all their attractive inherent properties and full use in solid state devices, like solar cells and light emitting diodes. However, combined with a more mature technology, like gallium nitride (GaN), ZnO can overcome several of its major challenges. In fact, the tuning possibility of functional properties may exceed that of the parent semiconductors by unconventional alloying, like anion incorporation. Hence, the PhD project aims at investigating the physics of unconventional alloying of oxides (with emphasis on ZnO), and is an application motivated basic research project combining synthesis and characterization within solid state physics and materials science.

Number of award(s): One PhD research fellowship will be available.

Duration of award(s): The fellowship is for a period of 3 years. Starting date no later than 01.10.2015.

What does it cover? Pay grade: 50 – 57 (NOK 429 700 – 482 800 per year).

Selection Criteria: The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
