Amsterdam Merit Scholarships for Master’s Students in Netherlands, 2014/15

Applications are invited for University of Amsterdam scholarships available for master’s students from outside the European Economic Area. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of scholarships that can be awarded, only the most outstanding candidates will be awarded University of Amsterdam scholarships. These University of Amsterdam Scholarships consist of € 6000, € 9000 or € 12.000. In the first month of study the student will be paid €1000. The remainder of the scholarship will be paid in 12 monthly installments. Application should be submitted till April 1, 2014 with respect to a scholarship for the academic year 2014-2015.

Eligibility: Outstanding students from outside the European Economic Area can apply for an Amsterdam Merit Scholarship when they meet the following criteria:
-Having completed an LL.B. degree with an average grade of 7,5 (on a scale from 1-10) and being admitted to one of the LL.M. programmes of the Amsterdam Law School.
-No more than five years should have elapsed between obtaining the LL.B. degree and start of the LL.M. programme.
-Scholarships will not be awarded to applicants who already obtained an LL.M. or any other master degree nor to applicants who have been granted another scholarship.
The eligibility assessment will be made on the basis of your AMS motivation letter, average grade, resume, motivation letter and letters of reference regarding your academic qualities.
If the number of applicants exceeds the number of scholarships that can be awarded, only the most outstanding candidates will be awarded a scholarship.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Students from outside the European Economic Area can apply for these University of Amsterdam Scholarships.

Scholarship Description: The Faculty of Law-Amsterdam Law School – aims to attract talented students to its LL.M. programmes. Amsterdam Merit Scholarships are available for those who completed their LL.B. degree with flying colours. The eligibility assessment will be made on the basis of your AMS motivation letter, average grade, resume, motivation letter and letters of reference regarding your academic qualities.If the number of applicants exceeds the number of scholarships that can be awarded, only the most outstanding candidates will be awarded a scholarship.

Duration of award(s): In the first month of study the student will be paid 1000 €. The remainder of the scholarship will be paid in 12 monthly installments (the scholarship cannot be used by way of (partial) tuition waiver: the applicant has to pay the full amount of the tuition due).

What does it cover? The scholarship consists of either 6000, € 9000 or € 12.000. In the first month of study – September 2014 – the student will be paid 1000 €. The remainder of the scholarship will be paid in 12 monthly instalments. Note that the scholarship cannot be used by way of (partial) tuition waiver: the applicant has to pay the full amount of the tuition due (12000 €).

Selection criteria: Only students who are admitted to one of the LL.M. programmes of the Amsterdam Law School can be awarded a scholarship. Students are selected on the basis of academic merit.

Notification: Applicants will be informed before July 1, 2014.

How to Apply: Applicants should apply by post. Applicants should write an AMS motivation letter (tell us in not more than 300 words your motivation to get the scholarship), addressed to the Director of the Amsterdam Law School, Dr. M.Y.A. Zieck. This letter should be accompanied with the other required application documents:
-Printed version of the completed online application form
-Certified copy of university transcript of grades
-Certified copy of university diploma
-Evidence of English proficiency
-Motivation letter
-Two letters of reference
-Curriculum vitae

Scholarship Application Deadline: The application deadline is April 1, 2014 with respect to a scholarship for the academic year 2014-2015.
