Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership is pleased to offer a range of scholarships to students of high academic ability for 2023 entry. Students of developing countries and territories identified for OECD official development aid in the DAC List of ODA Recipients are eligible to apply for these awards.

There are approximately ten students annually for the academic session 2023/2024. These are awarded to undertake a master’s degree program at the university. The scholars will receive up to $10,000 US per year (max. two years)

The purpose of the ESED scholarship is to support outstanding students pursuing advanced studies in sustainable energy development and to encourage meaningful contributions to the collective body of knowledge about this subject.

The Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership is a not-for-profit organization whose members are the world’s leading electricity companies. It proudly promotes sustainable energy development through electricity sector projects and human capacity-building activities in developing and emerging nations worldwide.

Application Deadline: April 7, 2023, at 5 pm ET.

ESED Scholarships in Sustainable Energy Development for Developing Countries, 2023

Eligibility  

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, students must

  • Plan to undertake studies at the Masters’s level in areas directly related to sustainable energy development. Examples: zero-carbon energy, smart grids, electric transportation, energy storage, advanced electricity technologies, public policy, economics, law, political science, etc.
  • Pursue full-time studies for at least one full school year (two or three semesters) as of mid to late 2023
  • Be a citizen of a developing country on the list of official development aid recipients identified by the Development Assistance Committee of the OECD.
  • These are awarded in areas directly related to sustainable energy development.
  • These are available to undertake studies at the master’s level.
  • Be an outstanding student:
    • Excellent grades in the top 20% of their class
    • Committed to zero-carbon energy development
    • History of community involvement
    • Determined to advance their knowledge and understanding

How to Apply

  • How to Apply: Applications should be submitted online.
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must provide an electronic copy of all the documents listed below. If the language of their original documents is not English, they require a certified translation of the document, including the name of the translator as well as a copy of the original (untranslated) document.
    • Passport (photo page only) or birth certificate demonstrating citizenship of a developing country.
    • Curriculum vitae detailing your education, work experience (if applicable), awards, and participation in volunteer and/or extracurricular activities
    • Admission letter from your university program of choice.
    • A course outline of your intended master’s program (PDF file or link)
    • All previous university transcripts: If this application is for the second year of a two-year master’s program, include your transcript for your first year.
    • Two reference letters or forms: At least one of the references must be from an Academic referee. The second referee may be another Academic referee (as detailed above) or a personal referee.
  • Language Requirement: To be eligible to apply for this free study, students must plan to undertake studies at the Master’s level in areas directly related to sustainable energy development. Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements to be able to study there.
