A Ph.D. fellowship (SKO 1017) in bioinformatics is available for 3 years at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Department of Molecular Medicine, from 01.11.2017.  Norwegian and foreign applicants can apply for the fellowship.

The project aims to develop computational methods for analysis and integration of large, genome-wide datasets (ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, other) into 3-dimensional (3D) models of the genome, using in-house modeling tools.

Eligibility: The ideal candidate will have a strong background in informatics or bioinformatics, should have experience with programming or scripting, and a strong motivation to understand genome biology. Creativity and a willingness to try new ideas and approaches is an advantage. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for an interview. A research seminar will be expected as part of the interview.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have a master’s degree in informatics, bioinformatics, mathematics, statistics (or similar).

Test Requirement: No

English Language Requirements: A good command of English is required for all students attending the University of Oslo. International students; Ph.D. research fellows and post-doctoral research fellows who are not native speakers of English, must document their proficiency in English by taking one of the following internationally recognized tests

  • TOEFL– Test of English as a Foreign Language
  • IELTS– International English Language Testing Service
  • Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) and Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) from the University of Cambridge
  • Applicants to the program for the Ph.D. degree in Science must obtain a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 80 (internet-based) on the TOEFL test or a minimum score of 6.5 on the IELTS (academic) test. The same applies to applicants for postdoctoral research fellow positions.
