Jackman Humanities Institute Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships in Humanities, 2017-2019

Applications are invited for Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships in the Humanities, at the University of Toronto in Canada for 2017-2019 academic year.

Up to four Fellows in the Humanities will be selected for a two-year fellowship in the JHI. Fellows will be selected on the basis of accomplishment appropriate to their stage in their career, the promise of excellence and the relevance of their research to the annual theme.

The Jackman Humanities Institute advances scholarship at the University of Toronto by creating new networks — both physical and virtual — for interaction among humanities scholars, regardless of their discipline.

Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing postdoctoral program.

Study Subject: Fellowships are awarded in the field of Humanities. The theme for 2017–2018 is
Indelible Violence: Shame, Reconciliation, And the Work of Apology.

Scholarship Award: The Fellowship provides an annual $50,000 Canadian stipend.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for these fellowships:

  • Ph.D. Completed 1 July 2014 — 1 May 2017
  • Applicants must have completed their degree within three years of the beginning of the fellowship (1 July 2016).
  • Applicants who will defend their thesis before 1 May 2017 are eligible, but a letter from their supervisor or Chair may be requested. Any award will be conditional on a successful defense.
  • Applicants who received their Ph.D. prior to 1 July 2014 are ineligible.
  • Degree candidates and recipients of the Ph.D. from the University of Toronto are ineligible.
  • The Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships in the Humanities are open to citizens of all states. Nationality: The Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships in the Humanities are open to citizens of all states.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have their Ph.D. completed between 1 July 2014 and 1 May 2017.

English language Requirements: Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.
