Wildlife Rehabilitation Internship
Interns gain valuable practical experience, while helping PAWS’ wildlife patients and working with professional staff and highly trained volunteers. Interns will receive daily one-on-one training and are required to attend an orientation and two in-depth training classes. Interns will also have the opportunity to work on an individual or group project. Interns must have ability to speak, read and write the English language fluently. The internship date starts from May 1 to October 31 – Full time.
Big Cat Rescue Internship Program
During the course of the internship, the intern will gain valuable knowledge and working experience with small cats including; Siberian lynx, Canada lynx, bobcat, serval, caracal and other animals. Animal Husbandry Internships are 12-week terms and are full-time non-paid positions. Interns work a 5-6 day workweek of 50+ hours. Applications are accepted year round. It is recommended that you apply no later than three months prior to your desired start date, but applications will be accepted anytime.
Animal Care Internships
It offers valuable experience to those who are planning to apply to vet school or looking to persue a job in the animal care field. All internships are unpaid and housing is the responsibility of the individual. Interns must commit to volunteering at least 16-36 hours per week. This includes working at least 1-2 full days. There are three intern sessions available each year. Application Deadlines are 15 March for summer, 15 July for fall and 15 November for winter.
Internships are designed for college students and recent graduates who wish to gain valuable experience working with marine mammals and tropical birds. Interns will be incorporated into the daily activities of the Zoological Operations department including: diet preparation and sanitation, exhibit cleaning and maintenance, speaking in public presentations and show support, guest relations, and animal monitoring and safety. Interns will get $8.00 per hour. Application deadlines are July 1st for fall October 1st for spring and March 1st for summer each year.
EFBC’s Feline Conservation Centre Internships
EFBC’s Feline Conservation Center has limited availability for qualified interns. The internship is a minimum 12 week program. Applicants must have an observation and assistance in medical procedures if situation allows for it. Interns majoring in veterinary medicine may have an opportunity to work with our veterinarian at their private clinic as well. Applications renews on September 1 every year.
Interns have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on animal care experience, knowledge about a variety of species, and exposure to the operations of an animal care center. Applicants must be mature individual with the ability to handle physically and emotionally stressful situations, a demanding workload, and the ability to work independently or as a team. Currently applications are opened for the fall 2014 (August 25, 2014–Nov. 14, 2014) and winter 2014 (Nov. 24, 2014–Feb. 13, 2015).
Animal Care Internships
These internships will help in enhancing productivity and efficiency of animal husbandry at the sanctuary, assisting in maintaining high standards of care. Internships are non-salaried but can possibly include a stipend. Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or have a work permit in the U.S. All interns will undergo training on safety procedures, crisis management, and the rules of the road involving the care of potentially dangerous animals. Internships are for a period of 4 weeks to one year and require a minimum of 40 hours per week.
San Diego Zoo Internships
Interns will fill specific roles within a home department and will be given assignments over the summer to ensure they gain a real understanding of the business aspect of the organization. The application process starts from 1 January to 31st March each year.
Exotic Cat Internship
Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge is a no-kill facility dedicated to rescuing abused, abandoned and unwanted big cats. The refuge is located in NW Arkansas is seeking a full-time, 6 months Intern Keeper. The internship coversWeekly cash stipend for food. Applicants must be self-motivated, with high desire to provide the best care available to animals. Applicants must also be observant and able to keep detailed records. Deadline for fall internship applications is April and spring internship applications is November 1.
IMMS Animal Care Internships
The IMMS Animal Care Internship Program is designed as a way for students/individuals interested in a career in animal care and training to gain valuable experience in a real-world setting. Interns will primarily be trained in aspects of animal care, but will also participate in other activities at IMMS. Interns must be able to commit to a minimum of at least 12 weeks, 40 hours a week. The internship can be extended depending on work performance. The application deadlines are 1st March, 1st June and 1st November.
IMMS Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Stranding Response Internship
The IMMS Stranding Response Internship is designed as a way for students interested in a career in marine mammal and sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation to gain hands on experience in a real-world setting. Interns will participate in the response to both live and dead marine mammals and sea turtles. Intern must be financially stable enough to obtain housing and transportation, though IMMS staff will do their best to assist you in making arrangements. Applications will close on 1st March, 1st June and 1st November.
Houston Zoo Internships
The Houston Zoo offers unpaid internships for current or recent college students. Internships are available in most animal sections, as well as horticulture, education, marketing, conservation, and other areas. The minimum time commitment is 200 hours during the semester. Specific hours may be scheduled to meet the needs of both the intern and the department. All applicants must provide a cover letter, a current resume, and one letter of recommendation from either a professor or previous employer. The application deadlines are March 24, 2014 and June 30, 2014.
Veterinary Internship in Aquatic Animal Healt
This veterinary internship will provide veterinary experience in the areas of marine mammal pathology and stranding response, public aquarium, zoo, and aquaculture medicine. Applicants must provide demonstrated research and pathology experience and a demonstrated track record in publication of research results. Applications should be submitted by 31st July 2014.
Wildlife Rehabilitator Interns
The Interns are responsible for feeding and caring for injured and orphaned wildlife, including small to medium mammals and songbirds, white-tailed deer, and birds of prey. Interns should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Preference will be given to students studying in related fields or graduates looking to obtain work experience. Applications for 2015 will be accepted starting in October 2014.
Internships at Georgia Aquarium
Interns commit to a regular schedule in a specific department for a short period of time (3-8 months). All internships are unpaid. Interns must have excellent writing skills, detail-oriented, highly organized, strong problem-solving skills and self-motivated. The minimum required hours per week are 24. Application deadlines are July 12 or fall, November 1st for spring and March 10 for summer each year.
Wildlife Rehabilitation Volunteer Interns
All intern positions are voluntary and full time. Position duration varies from a minimum of 2 months up to maximum of 6 months, 5 days per week, 40-50 hours per week. Preference will be given to intern applicants dedicated to internships longer than 2 months. Experience in wildlife rehabilitation techniques is advisable. The minimum length of the animal care leader internship is 4 months or longer, depending on the species of interest. Spring and summer internship applications are accepted until March 31, 2014. Fall internship applications are accepted until July 15, 2014.
Catskill Animal Sanctuary Internship
Camp Kindness at Catskill Animal Sanctuary engages young people in a vibrant day program designed to foster compassion. The age-specific program will span approximately six weeks and takes place on Sanctuary grounds in Saugerties, New York. The Humane Educator, along with two assistants, will guide young people age 9 – 14 through each one-week humane education program. The deadline for application is April 30, 2014.
