ANIMAL CARE INTERNSHIPS

Internships at the National Aviary

At the National Aviary students can intern in several different departments including Animal Programs, Marketing, Horticulture, and more. Interns will work under the direct supervision of the National Aviary’s Education Trainers to produce multiple free-flight bird shows. This internship focuses on the training of a collection of approximately 70 birds. The application deadline for the fall 2015 internship is December 15th, 2015 and for Winter/Spring 2016 is May 11, 2016.

IMMS Animal Care Internships

The IMMS Animal Care Internship Program is designed as a way for students/individuals interested in a career in animal care and training to gain valuable experience in a real-world setting. Interns will primarily be trained in aspects of animal care, but will also participate in other activities at IMMS. Interns must be able to commit to a minimum of at least 12 weeks, 40 hours a week. The internship can be extended depending on work performance. The application deadlines are 1st March, 1st June and 1st November.

Internships at Georgia Aquarium

Interns commit to a regular schedule in a specific department for a short period of time (3-8 months). All internships are unpaid. Interns must have excellent writing skills, detail-oriented, highly organized, strong problem-solving skills and self-motivated. The minimum required hours per week are 24. Application deadlines are July 12 or fall, November 1st for spring and March 10 for summer each year.

Animal Care Internship WonderLab in USA

WonderLab Museum of Science, Health and Technology Provide is offering Animal Care Internship for the academic year 2015-2016. Provide animal care and feeding, assist with habitat maintenance, and aid in the research and development of animal demonstrations and interpretive materials. Typical commitment is six to ten hours per week. Applicant should have interest in biology and animals with weekend availability. This position is available to applicants with work-study funding or as an unpaid internship.

Animal Embassy is awarding internship for high school students, college students and college graduates with a desire to learn and explore many aspects of exotic animal care as well as issues related to wildlife and the environment. These internships are non-paid.

Internship at Animal Care Sanctuary

The Animal Care Sanctuary is offering internship in domestic animal care. Candidates must be pursuing or have recently received a degree in pre-veterinary science, animal science, biology, or a related field (Veterinary students also welcome). This internship is 40 hrs/week, and interns may be required to work weekends as assigned.  Interns will receive a bi-weekly stipend of $200, and housing is provided on-site. This 4 week internships are available throughout the year.

Internship at Houston Zoo in USA

The Houston Zoo offers unpaid internships for current or recent college students. Internships are available in most animal sections, as well as horticulture, education, marketing, conservation, and other areas. Internships are offered for spring, summer, and fall semesters, but not all areas will have positions available during all semesters.

Program Paid Internship in USA

The Program Animal Internship is available for US citizens. The IAC is dedicated to the husbandry and training of a diverse collection of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. This is an unpaid position and there is no housing provided. Interns must be flexible with their schedules and be able to work 16 – 24 hours per week.

Volunteer Assistant Ranger Internship in UK

Volunteer Assistant Ranger Internship is available at Falls of Clyde, New Lanark (UK). This internship is offered for full time hours 3 days a week. Applicant wouldn’t be paid salary but some expenses will be reimbursed. The application deadline is 15th May, 2015.

Queensland Veterinary Specialists Internships

Queensland Veterinary Specialists and Pet Emergency share a facility, providing referral soft tissue surgery, orthopaedic surgery, internal medicine, oncology, dermatology, theriogenology, diagnostic imaging, critical care and emergency medicine. Sarvey Wildlife Care Center is accepting submission for late summer/fall 2015 internships (Mid August thru October) or Winter/early spring positions (10 to 12 weeks anytime during October – April). Volunteers help to ensure marine sanctuaries remain America’s underwater treasures for future generations. As a volunteer intern, you will work on a variety of projects tailored to meet your capacity, availability and interests.

Big Cat Rescue Internship Program

During the course of the internship, the intern will gain valuable knowledge and working experience with small cats including; Siberian lynx, Canada lynx, bobcat, serval, caracal and other animals. Animal Husbandry Internships are 12-week terms and are full-time non-paid positions. Interns work a 5-6 day workweek of 50+ hours. Applications are accepted year round. It is recommended that you apply no later than three months prior to your desired start date, but applications will be accepted anytime.

Animal Care Internships

It offers valuable experience to those who are planning to apply to vet school or looking to persue a job in the animal care field. All internships are unpaid and housing is the responsibility of the individual. Interns must commit to volunteering at least 16-36 hours per week. This includes working at least 1-2 full days. There are three intern sessions available each year.

EFBC’s Feline Conservation Centre Internships

EFBC’s Feline Conservation Center has limited availability for qualified interns. The internship is a minimum 12 week program. Applicants must have an observation and assistance in medical procedures if situation allows for it. Interns majoring in veterinary medicine may have an opportunity to work with our veterinarian at their private clinic as well.

Animal Care Internships

IMMS Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Stranding Response Internship

The IMMS Stranding Response Internship is designed as a way for students interested in a career in marine mammal and sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation to gain hands on experience in a real-world setting. Interns will participate in the response to both live and dead marine mammals and sea turtles. Intern must be financially stable enough to obtain housing and transportation, though IMMS staff will do their best to assist you in making arrangements.

Veterinary Internship in Aquatic Animal Healt

This veterinary internship will provide veterinary experience in the areas of marine mammal pathology and stranding response, public aquarium, zoo, and aquaculture medicine. Applicants must provide demonstrated research and pathology experience and a demonstrated track record in publication of research results.

Wildlife Rehabilitator Interns

The Interns are responsible for feeding and caring for injured and orphaned wildlife, including small to medium mammals and songbirds, white-tailed deer, and birds of prey. Interns should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Catskill Animal Sanctuary Internship

Camp Kindness at Catskill Animal Sanctuary engages young people in a vibrant day program designed to foster compassion. The age-specific program will span approximately six weeks and takes place on Sanctuary grounds in Saugerties, New York. The Humane Educator, along with two assistants, will guide young people age 9 – 14 through each one-week humane education program.
