Master’s Program in scientific and technological disciplines (academic year 2010-11)

The Fulbright-Finmeccanica Scholarship is a new initiative offered by the Fulbright Program, open to all graduates in scientific and technological disciplines, to attend a two-year Master’s program at a U.S. university. The launch of the Fulbright-Finmeccanica Scholarship in 2008 coincided with the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of both Finmeccanica and the US-Italy Fulbright Commission.

The Società Finanziaria Meccanica was established in 1948 by the Italian Institute for Industrial Reconstruction (IRI), with a mission to manage companies in the mechanic and building industry. While Finmeccanica changed organizationally several times in the course of time, it never betrayed its industrial vocation. Following a history of both successful and difficult moments, Finmeccanica is today focused on high technology: it has become the first Italian company with a global dimension in aerospace, defence and security sectors; it is one of the world leading operators in electronics for defence and helicopter industries; it is the European leader in satellite and space services, provided with consolidated energy and transport expertise.

The Fulbright Program was launched in 1946, in the aftermath of the Second World War, to promote peace through cultural exchanges between the U.S. and the other countries in the world. In Italy, the program was established two years later, in 1948; since then, over 7.000 scholars crossed the Ocean and succeeded with their work in the field of the Arts, Politics, Public Administration and Academia. The Program promotes study, research and teaching in the U.S. through the award of 130-140 scholarships every year.

DEADLINE: May 6 th , 2009

TARGET: The program is open to all Italian graduates who graduated with a Master’s Degree (Old University System – Laurea) or a Second Level Degree (New University System – Laurea Specialistica) within the three years prior to the application deadline. Eligible applicants must have excellent command of the English language. The TOEFL Certificate is a requirement (Minimum scores: 100 internet-based; 250 computer-based; 600 paper-based. AMOUNT OF THE SCHOLARSHIP: $ 80.000 + € 1.500 for travel. Applications of selected candidates will be processed by the Institute of International Education, the agency responsible for placing students to U.S. universities.

FIELDS OF STUDY: Scientific and technological disciplines (Physics, Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Electronics, Engineering, Business Engineering, etc).

DURATION: A two-year Master’s degree program at a U.S. university.
