The Institute of Clinical Microbiology, Immunology and Hygiene in Erlangen, Germany, invites applications for a

PhD Position

which is available immediately for an initial two-year appointment in the Innate Immunity/Leishmania research group (head: Dr. rer. nat. Ulrike Schleicher and Prof. Dr. med. Christian Bogdan). The project aims to characterize the translational control of macrophage effector molecules and the mechanisms of parasite persistence in Leishmania infections. The studies will require both in vitro and in vivo analysis including RNA and protein expression analysis, in vitro translation assays, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and adoptive cell transfer experiments (for further information see http://www.klimi.med.uni-erlangen.de/ → research projects → AG Schleicher/Bogdan). The project is embedded into and funded by the Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research at the University of Erlangen (IZKF).
Applicants should hold a Diploma/MSc degree in biological sciences or related areas, they should have a strong interest in basic research and be ambitious and motivated to work in competitive fields of biomedical research. Laboratory experience in any of the following areas (e.g. parasitology, immunology, microbiology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, analysis of transgenic or knockout mice) would be helpful.
