PhD research fellowship position in “Model-Driven Service Engineering” at
Department of Telematics, NTNU, Norway
A PhD research fellowship position is offered within the area of Networked Systems at the Department
of Telematics in the Faculty of Information Technology, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering
(IME), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The Department of Telematics
has 3 research areas: (1) Networked Systems, (2) Networks, and (3) Information Security.
The department has approximately 35 PhD students and is currently involved in a national centre of
Excellence (Q2S, www.q2s.ntnu.no), National research programs, EU Network of Excellences
(ePhoton/ONe, Euro-NGI) and EU research projects (SPICE, SIMS).
The research focus of this PhD fellowship position is on methods and tools for high level service
modeling and automated transformation to executable realizations. Network based services in the
future are expected to have a rich content, to be personalized and to be adaptable to different usage
situations. Rapid and modular development as well as delivery over highly heterogeneous and dynamic
platforms will be needed. Central research questions are how collaboration-oriented models can be
used to specify services in a compositional way and how such models can be refined into detailed
design models suitable for automatic translation to executable code. Methods and tools shall be
developed to support this.
We seek a highly motivated individual holding a Master’s degree in Telematics, Telecommunications,
Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other relevant disciplines. The candidate must fulfil the

PhD research fellowship position at NTNU is normally for 4 years where the candidates are expected
to use 25 % of their time on teaching or research assistance duties.
PhD fellowships are placed in salary code 1017, salary level 43-59 in the national salary scheme, gross
NOK 325 600-431 500 per annum, of which 2 % is deducted for the State Pension scheme. Starting
salary expected to be at level 43.
The appointment will be made in accordance with current regulations with supplementary rules for
research fellowship appointments in universities and polytechnics. Applicants must agree to participate
in organized doctoral study programs within the period of the appointment. The successful applicant
must agree to the conditions laid down for public employees. A contract will be drawn up regarding the
period of appointment and work-related duties for award holders.
