Post-Doctoral Scientist – Cell Biology, Children’s Medical Research Institute, Westmead (Sydney), Australia.  The Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) is a dedicated team of people working toward a common goal – the improved health of our children. CMRI is a modern biomedical research facility located on the same campus as the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and motivated Post-Doctoral Scientist in the Cell Signalling Unit.

The appointee will be responsible for research involving the development of pharmacological inhibitors of endocytosis targeting the GTPase enzyme dynamin.  The dynamin drug discovery platform consists of novel modulators of the GTPase dynamin, coupled with in vitro and in vivo screening. Dynamin is proposed as a novel target for a range of disease indications. Modulation of dynamin may provide therapeutic benefit for a range of CNS disorders and proliferative diseases, such as epilepsy and cancer. The inhibitors also provide significant research tools for molecular dissection of the endocytic pathway.  The position involves research into understanding the mechanism of action of the inhibitors in cells and to utilise them to gain insights into the process of endocytosis. The appointee will play a leading role in the dynamin inhibitor program.

Applicants must have a PhD and extensive experience in cell biology including tissue culture and fluorescence microscopy. Broad experience in pharmacology, cell biology or molecular biology would be a distinct advantage. Applicants must also have good written and oral communication skills, evidence of potential for future development, and the ability to work both independently and co-operatively as part of a team.

Appointment will be on a full-time basis with remuneration in accordance with NH&MRC guidelines based on qualifications and experience. Additional benefits include a Sydney loading, private health insurance, a generous salary packaging scheme and participation in an employer-based superannuation fund. Enquiries regarding the position should be directed to Prof Phil Robinson (Head of Signalling Unit) on +612 8865 2800 or probinson@cmri.com.au. Further information about CMRI is available at http://www.cmri.org.au/cmri.php?page=341

Applications should include a cover letter (citing PV 08/08), curriculum vitae and the contact details (phone/email) of three professional referees and be forwarded to recruitment@cmri.org.au

Closing date for applications is 18 April 2008.
