The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans is a nonprofit organization based in Alexandria, Virginia, that was founded in 1947.  It is committed to honor the achievements of outstanding Americans who have succeeded in spite of adversity and to emphasize the importance of higher education.

Why at the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc.- Members and friends of the Horatio Algeria Association have funded the need-based college for low-income youth to pursue their dreams through higher education. The Association offers many services and opportunities to the Horatio Alger Scholars.

Eligibility 

  • US citizens are eligible to apply for the study.
  • Educations is awarded to study the subjects offered by the university.

How to Apply

  • How to apply: To participate, you are encouraged to read the definitive rules for this free study prior to application, in particular, any specific eligibility conditions and check the FAQs if you have any questions.
  • Supporting Documents: To apply as a home-schooled candidate you will need to write in “Home School” for your school name.
  • Admission Requirements: To apply, all applicants must have and maintain at least a 2.0-grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
  • Language Requirement: Applicants must be fluent in English for education.
  • Deadline: The application is open annually from August 1 – October 25.

Benefit

  • The award is valued at $25000 each.
  • National Scholars receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., during the spring of their senior year to participate in the National Scholars Conference.
  • Recipients must attend the National Scholars Conference to receive the award.
