Scholarship Open for International Students: The Scholarship is open for New Zealand students.

Scholarship Description: The Dominion Post intends to fund in 2011 at Victoria University of Wellington up to three research scholarships in the areas of Communications Studies, Media Studies, Creative Writing or Information Management. The Dominion Post is the second-largest daily newspaper in the country and has a wonderful legacy in the publishing world. It was launched on July 8 2002, following the merger of the capital’s two daily newspapers, The Dominion and The Evening Post. Number of awards offered Up to three Value $15,000 plus domestic tuition fees Tenure of award One year Selection criteria Applicants must be enrolled or intending to enrol in a Masters degree by thesis and must be intending to conduct research in any area of communications, media or creative writing that has the potential to benefit the health and well-being of New Zealanders.

Value: Total offer is of $15,000 plus domestic tuition fees.

Selection criteria:The successful applicants shall be short listed by representatives of the Scholarships Committee and successful candidates will be selected in consultation with the donor. The selection will be made primarily on the basis of academic merit and the ability of the University to supervise the proposed research. Where there is a difficulty in distinguishing between applicants financial need may be taken into account. If no suitable applicants are available, the scholarship will not be awarded and the funds invested until successful applicants are found.

Notification: The scholarship stipend shall be paid to each scholarship recipient in three equal instalments. The first such payment shall be made by the Scholarships Office as soon as practicable after confirmation of enrolment. A small allowance will be paid towards the cost of producing the thesis. The thesis allowance entilement will lapse if it is not taken up within eighteen months.
