2014 Dick and Mary Earle Scholarships in Technology, New Zealand

Dick and Mary Earle is offering research scholarships for Masters and PhD students. These research scholarships are provided in the aspects of technology in New Zealand universities. Applicants will have completed their BTech, BEng, BE degree program. Scholars will get $17,000 per annum at master level and $25,000 per annum at PhD level. Applicants can apply till September 1, 2014.

Eligibility:
Applicants will be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who have resided in New Zealand for at least three years immediately preceding the year of selection.
– Applicants will have completed the requirements for a BTech, BEng, BE degree or equivalent, with honors where they are awarded, in a field appropriate to their intended study, at a New Zealand university.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Applicants will be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who have resided in New Zealand for at least three years immediately preceding the year of selection.

Scholarship Description: Dick and Mary Earle have established this scholarship for the support and encouragement of postgraduate research in New Zealand universities into aspects of technology. Technology is important to the well-being and the enhanced social fabric of the community and it is hoped that through this scholarship suitably qualified graduates will improve their own capacity to advance technology and also will make a contribution to technological knowledge relevant to New Zealand.

Number of award(s): Normally one master scholarship and one Doctoral scholarship will be awarded each year.

What does it cover? $17,000 per annum at Masters level and $25,000 per annum at PhD level.

Duration of award(s): The scholarship is available for up to three years according to the course of study. It would normally be expected that scholars would study for one degree at a university. Award payments will be made six-monthly and will be dependent on a positive and satisfactory report on progress from the institution at which the scholar is studying. Unsatisfactory progress may lead to termination of the award. It is intended that, subject to availability of finance, there will be up to six scholarships at any one time, one being normally offered annually in each of the two fields designated.

Selection Criteria: Applicants will be selected according to the selection criteria as,
-Practical relevance of the proposed study to New Zealand industry with regard to product development and innovation in, but not limited to, the food and bio processing industries.
-Backing for the project.
-Capability of the candidate to deliver by successfully completing the project within the allocated timetable.
-Academic record.
