AERC-World Bank Visiting Scholars Program, 2023

The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and The World Bank, Africa Region Chief Economist’s Office (AFRCE), are pleased to announce the establishment of the AERC-World Bank visiting scholars program.

This program is a result of a collaborative partnership between the two institutions, aimed at enhancing economic policy research in sub-Saharan Africa and strengthening global linkages in economic policy, academic research, and graduate training.

The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) is a non-profit organization that was established in 1988 with the goal of promoting economic policy research and training in Africa. AERC aims to build capacity in economics and related disciplines in order to contribute to the sustainable development of African economies.

Why should you choose this program? The AERC-World Bank visiting scholars program provides an exciting opportunity for AERC researchers to spend four months at the World Bank. Each year, three researchers will be selected from the AERC network based on set guidelines, including the World Bank’s policies and procedures.

Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: African countries
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Research projects pertinent to the research agenda of the World Bank Africa Region and imperatives for sustained African development
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
  • Must be an AERC researcher, including researchers from the AERC collaborative PhD program (CPP)
  • Must have an active AERC research project at least at the interim/post-field stage or final research paper stage

  • Draft paper on a subject pertinent to the research agenda of the World Bank Africa Region and imperatives facing African development
  • Curriculum/course materials for relevant courses (if applicable)
  • Updated curriculum vitae
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants must fulfill the following admission requirements:
  • The research project must be pertinent to the research agenda of the World Bank Africa Region, and imperatives for sustained African development.
  • Language Requirement: Applicants must fulfill one of the following language requirements:
  • Applicants must be fluent in English language (verbally as well as written)
