As per Sir Joseph Bhore, the chairperson of the health survey and development committee in 1946, there was recommendation for the establishment of a national medical centre in India. The centre would concentrate wholly on fulfilling the needs of the healthcare division. The commissions set up on the mutual exchange of words among Nehru, Amrit Kaur and the recommendations of the Bhore Committee managed to create a proposal which got a welcome note from the government of New Zealand.  With worth amount from New Zealand under the Colombo Plan the foundation of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in 1952 was possible and was established in the year 1956. It is more of an autonomous institution through an Act of Parliament, to provide services in healthcare domain.

-AIIMS is one of the most respected institutions in India that offers courses like MBBS/BDS for students
-Six new centers: Bhopal, Patna, Jodhpur, Rishikesh, Raipur and Bhubaneswar have been developed since August 2013 in respective States of the country
-Students of age 17 years are allowed to sit for the examination
-The criteria required to apply for the courses is 60% marks for Gen. and 50% marks for SC/ST category in the subject of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology

AIIMS MBBS

About 72 Indian students are accepted for this prestigious course every year by the reputed institution, which has got 36 from General Category and 16 from the reserved category (SC/ST) and 19 Seats for Other Backward Classes (OBC) and 1 orthopaedic physically handicapped, as per the M.B.B.S programme result. On a parallel note the numbers of applicants are huge which range from 80,000 to 100,000 resulting on a very low percentage of acceptance ratios. Government of India nominates five international students from SAARC nations to complete the class size of 77. Apart form the above courses AIIMS also provides paramedical and basic science training for its undergraduates.

AIIMS PG Courses

AIIMS has got over forty-two speciality post-graduate courses which invites applications from students on a national wide competition forum. This examination is held every six months. Though thousands of students do sit for the entrance exam yet only few are selected for the same through series of tests. These courses are opted by the most intellectual brains of the country as of their devoted parameters and other relevant areas that require high dedication. The new inclusion in this regard was set forth when the institution started both online and paper-and-pen modes from May 2013 onwards.

Reservation of Seats

Six New AIIMS have been started with an intake of 100 students each except AIIMS, New Delhi.

 The reservation policy will be followed
1 7.5% ST
2 15% SC
3 27% OBC

For Indian Nationals, 3% reservation for Orthopedic physically handicapped shall be provided on horizontal basis, in the seats available.  Overall 672 seats are available in all AIIMS in India.

Note: The Examination has a duration limit of 3½ hours which is on one paper consisting of 200 objective types multiple choice questions. While correct answer gets (1) one mark, every incorrect response gets a negative of -1/3 (minus-one-third). All the requisites like pen/pencil are given by the organizing center to the students.

Entrance Exam Procedure

-Candidates can check websites for AIIMS for the UG entrance exam and apply at the online site too
-Candidates must provide preference of choice for centers apart from AIIMS Delhi
-Application fee for entrance exam is:
Rs 1000 for General/ OBC category
Rs 800/- for SC/ST category
-Payments are to be done through computer generated Challan Form in any branch of State Bank of India
-Even if the registration process is still continuing on students must have a downloaded copy saved with them for reference
